The tie that binds

I don't mind wearing ties, but if I don't have to, great! As an employee of the City of Wichita, I had to wear a tie, even though a youth services librarian in a tie is a bad idea. Kids see men who wear ties as scary authority figures. When I interviewed in Hibbing, I asked about the dress code (ties and aloha shirts). The City Manager was on my interview committee and he said, "I think I'm the only one around here that wears a tie."

So for those of you still forced to wear the collar of respectability, take note.
